Fosshotel Myvatn

I love being able to open the window and door to cool the room, since so many Icelandic hotels run hot. The sauna’s great for warming up after a day out exploring, and the amenities are way over the top. I’ve discovered Foss hotels and love them.

The views from both dining areas and the bedrooms are overwhelming, and the staff are helpful. The restaurant portions are generous, though the menu is much like what you find elsewhere. Our bed linen and towels were incredibly soft, and the double curtain gave us privacy with our view of the lake under the Turf. It was one of the first couple of nights in Iceland when we slept without interruption.

We could get to the hotel easily, and our clean room had a balcony and a big window facing a beautiful view of Myvatn lake. The sauna also looks out onto a lovely view. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

The hospitality is what I’ll remember most. A car accident and road closures forced us to change plans at the last minute, and the team handled it smoothly: they refunded the cancelled night in full and gave us a complimentary upgrade for our second night. Thanks especially to Juraj at reception for being so friendly and thoughtful. He made a stressful situation much easier. The hotel has beautiful design, stunning views, and the consistent quality you’d expect across the chain. Its location was perfect. I usually prefer Airbnb, but this stay changed my mind. I’d recommend this hotel group to anyone visiting Iceland.
