Eldá Guesthouse

For a stop on our Ring Road trip, this was an affordable, warm place with a kitchen and an easy-to-reach location. The walls are thin, though, and a group of Spanish guests nearby were very loud.

Bad weather and closed roads meant we were going to arrive after check-in. Someone at Eldá replied to my text right away and left our keys and check-in details on the desk for us. Everyone there was incredibly kind, helpful, and professional, and the room and amenities were wonderful.

We were very satisfied with our two-night stay, especially the breakfast, which we really liked. The clean rooms were in the building next door, where two rooms share a kitchen, bathroom, and shower.

After a long drive from Höfn, all we wanted was to make a quick dinner. We’d booked for kitchen access, but a sign said it could only be used until 11 PM, a limit no one had mentioned before we arrived. We had to hurry. In the morning, while we were cooking again before a long day on the road, one of the other guests angrily complained in their language, apparently about our cooking and a fire alarm. I asked if we’d set it off, but she walked away without answering. It left us feeling unwelcome, even though we’d paid like everyone else. We’d arrived late at Elda Guesthouse during our Myvatn stop on the Ring Road and were put in the extension building instead of the red main house shown on the booking profile. The entrance was muddy, with shoes scattered around, which didn’t bother us. The kitchen was another matter: food was overflowing and the fridge was full, with no room for our things. We later found out one group had rented the whole building and we were the only guests outside that group. We kept to ourselves and didn’t mind that arrangement in itself. If you stay here, I’d ask for a room in a building where one large group doesn’t make the shared facilities uncomfortable to use.
