BG4 Guesthouse

There are plenty of nearby restaurants, including some with more reasonable prices. The rooms are comfortable and the accommodation is cheap, and the shower is nice. The bathroom smell people mention comes from Iceland's geothermal water used for showers, so the homeowner can't really change that. The kitchen, though, is really bad and should definitely be improved. I wouldn't use it.

Check-in was easy to do myself, and the guesthouse looks just like the photos. The location is very good. My room was comfortable, with a good bed and Wi-Fi, and the toilet was clean. There's a fridge in the room, plus more cooking equipment in the kitchen.

The mattress didn't even have a bedsheet, and the towels they gave us were tiny. There was dirt staining the sink and a sewage smell from the toilet. The shower curtain was useless, so showering left huge puddles.

The location is great, and with the kitchen out of action we had a lovely time at cafes and restaurants in Akureyri. I'd recommend Kaffi Ilmur. As a place to sleep, this was okay, but if you want to cook for yourself, you'd better be happy with microwave meals. The tiny kitchen is poorly equipped for anything beyond student food like instant ramen, toast, or cereal, and there's a real shortage of bowls. We found the rooms seemed clean, though we were missing some sheets. The bathroom smelled bad, so we kept the fan on most of the time and the door shut. If it had smelled better, I'd probably rate the place closer to three stars. Parking all around the guesthouse is paid. We looked around and found a spot near the library, outside the paid zone, not too far away.
