Reykjavik Treasure

We stayed on the upper floor and absolutely loved it. This charming bed and breakfast sits right in the heart of Reykjavik, and the owner’s warmth and hospitality made us feel at home. Breakfast was delicious and so thoughtfully prepared.

Breakfast was included, with fresh homemade bread and cakes, meats, fish, hams, fruit, yogurt, and cereal. I’m sure specific dietary needs could be catered for too. Our host, Steinunn, was unbelievable. We hired a car, and she checked the live weather for the places we planned to visit, then suggested places to stop, bars, and restaurants. There were plenty of guides and maps, and nothing felt like too much trouble. Such a credit to Iceland and Reykjavik, please support this local, home-run business. Our stay was perfect, and Steinunn was a perfect host. We’d received clear instructions for parking in the paid garage across the road and for check-in. We stayed in the side annex, which had its own entrance. It was very well equipped with a kettle, microwave, fridge, TV we didn’t use, and WiFi. The large double bed was comfortable, with separate single duvets, which seems common in Europe but not so much in the UK. There was also a spacious bathroom with a washing machine. One thing to know: the water comes out extremely hot from both the tap and shower because it’s geothermal, and it smells of sulphur. A warning sign would be useful for people unfamiliar with Iceland’s water supply.

Our bedroom was on the small side, which made it a little uncomfortable, though it was cozy. The place is sweet and perfectly located, and the host is very charming. Sharing breakfast at the community table was a fun way to meet other travelers.

The shared dining table was a nice way to chat with other guests, and having homemade bread each morning made breakfast special. The rooms and common areas felt cozy and homey, and the whole place was very clean. It’s right in the center, just a couple of meters from a car park. We stayed four nights and it was one of our best experiences. We’d definitely come back.
