Snorri's Guesthouse

The bedroom was cleaner, larger, and nicer than I expected. The bathrooms and showers are a little small, but they were fine. It’s within walking distance of central Reykjavik and was really good value for a short stay.

There’s a shared kitchen with a coffee machine, which was handy, and the phone customer service was kind. Still, nobody was on site, and there was nowhere to leave luggage after the 11 am checkout. It felt more like a backpackers’ hostel than a guest house. The place was clean but very basic for the price, and the bathroom was tiny. It was okay for us, but a larger person might not fit through the shower door.

“Too bad, so sad” seemed to be the attitude when this establishment double-booked its rooms. I received booking #84*****17 and assumed everything was settled. A few days ago, I asked about arriving early, but there was no availability. So I asked whether I could book the room for another day. That was when they told me they had overbooked and said I should cancel my reservation. To me, that would let them off the hook, so I didn’t cancel. I asked what they would have done if I’d arrived on July 31st and got no answer. I also asked for help finding somewhere else to stay, and got no answer to that either. The beds were comfortable and the room itself was fine, but the shower setup was odd and the tap water was the worst we came across in Iceland. We never saw a staff member during the stay. The check-in details came from an unfamiliar email address and went to spam. We’d booked breakfast, then got an email saying it wasn’t included. In the morning, a bag of sad-looking rolls was left outside our door, with no chance for us to tell the hotel about our allergies.
