Hotel Akureyri

The breakfast had a brilliant range of food, and the staff were so helpful and went out of their way for us. I even told the woman at reception, who may have been the owner, what a great hotel it was. It was lovely and clean, one of the best places we’ve stayed. We’d definitely come back.

Our stay at Hotel Akureyri was really positive. The hotel has a nice atmosphere throughout, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We chose a sea-view room, which was a good decision. It was a good size with a comfortable bed and a handy fridge. The TV had broadband, so we could watch things in the evening after a long day out. There wasn’t much storage for clothes, and the room showed a few small signs of wear, including a missing piece on the door lock and a safe that didn’t work. Our first room also had a damaged TV, which wasn’t their fault. They moved us without any fuss, even though we hadn’t reported it or asked to change rooms. Breakfast was really nice each morning, buffet style, with high-quality food ready to go. We had a great time and would stay again if we’re back in the area.

The lobby and reception felt warm and were very nicely decorated. This was the last hotel on our Iceland road trip. It seemed new, though they were still adding some signs and shades at the front. My room was nice but a bit small, and I could barely find space for my suitcase. It had the basics, including a coffee machine but no kettle, a hair dryer, shampoo, shower gel, and towels, though no body lotion. On some floors you have to go down a few steps to reach certain rooms, as I did. The staff were really nice, and the food was yummy. I think it was the best breakfast I had in Iceland, with lots of fresh food like bread and cinnamon rolls. Breakfast meant walking to the other building. I’m not sure if that’s temporary or just how it normally works, since the hotel has two buildings next to each other. I recommend it, as it’s close to shops, restaurants, and coffee shops.

The breakfast was incredible, and the staff were lovely. The hotel itself is great, though storage in the double room was a hassle for two people staying more than a couple of days. More places to put things would make it excellent.
