Hrímland Apartments

Our loft had a refreshing sea view to wake up to. We stayed three nights, and the clean apartment had enough supplies for basic comfort. It’s right across from the bus stop for passengers going to and from Reykjavik, and shops and restaurants are within walking distance. Getting in touch with the owner was easy. The low ceiling around the loft windows was the main drawback; I bumped my head several times. The coffee cups were another small annoyance, too tiny to fill for a proper drink and awkward to clean. Still, I enjoyed the stay.

The washer and dryer were the best part for us, since we were midway through our trip and could do laundry with the detergent provided. The apartment was spacious, with a separate bedroom and living-kitchen area, and plenty of room for luggage. The kitchen had cookware, a fridge, coffee machine, and microwave, though the microwave was too difficult to use. We opened the window at night because it could get stuffy; a fan would help. Bring your own shower items, as they only provide a 3-in-1 handwash, shampoo, and body wash, plus towels. We were on the third floor and occasionally heard noise, but nothing too loud to sleep through. Check-in went smoothly after we emailed the host the day before to ask for instructions, since we didn’t have a local number for calls or texts. There’s ample parking in front, and the main street is walkable, with the whale watching centre directly opposite. One of my favorite places to stay in Iceland, and I’d come back to Akureyri and stay here again.

The apartment was spacious, looked new, and had a well-equipped kitchenette. We stayed two nights, and being halfway through our two-week trip, we made good use of the washer and dryer. It’s very close to the center, about 400 meters away. Perfect for us.

Everything is within walking distance, and the apartments sit in a great spot by the ocean. Inside, the layout is comfortable, with a full kitchen and washroom, plus a really good-sized shower. The washer and dryer were useful, although the dryer left clothes damp, so we had to find another way to finish drying them. There weren’t enough towels, so I was glad we brought our own. Better blackout blinds and perhaps a bedroom fan would help. We’d definitely return.
