Our studio was one of three adjoining units, beside the parking lot. The open-plan kitchen is below a mezzanine where the bed is, and the villa faces the lake with lovely views across to town. The place has an architectural focus, with books that showcase its design work. It was comfortable overall, but some practical details could be better. We were there in mid-March and still felt cold with the floor heating. The kitchen utensils were very basic, though salt and cooking oil were provided. Kitchen towels and a sponge would have helped with cleanup, and shower foam or shampoo would have been useful.

The photos made this accommodation look much better than the stay turned out to be. The bed is beneath a very low ceiling, and at 170 cm I hit my head while climbing in. There seemed to be more attention to displaying the architect’s books and photos in the living room than to making the space practical. The shower area was cramped, and we found crumbs on the sofa and chairs when we arrived. I had booked two units but was given access to only one. I messaged through Booking.com and iMessage without getting a response. When I eventually called the owner, there was no apology or acknowledgment of the error.
Our part of Villa Lola had a really lovely view over the Fjordur towards Akureyre, and the house has an interesting modern architectural look. But the photos don’t make clear that it contains three apartments, and the place was uncomfortable in nearly every way. It felt far too expensive for what you get. There’s nowhere comfortable to sit in the living room: just the dining table or a very uncomfortable fixed windowsill. The small, basic kitchen has two cooking spots, no dishwasher, and incomplete equipment. The bathroom is functional but small and simply furnished. The main loft bedroom is reached by an open staircase that’s very uncomfortable and completely unsuitable for elderly people or anyone with walking difficulties, like me. The ceiling over the beds is so low you’re sure to bump your head, and the other bedroom only has a bunk bed. Two stars for the view and architectural look.
We’ll be back! Villa Lola was a perfect adult getaway in Puerto Vallarta, right in the Romantic zone near the beach and surrounded by activities, bars, restaurants, and nightlife. The seven suites were comfortable and well appointed, and the service and breakfast were fantastic. Great coffee, too. We relaxed under the roof top palpa and cooled off in the pool.
Breakfast was just perfect, and Villa Lola is in a great location. The place is beautiful and very clean. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and they all made us feel at home. Highly recommended!
