Glaðheimar Cottages

Right beside the river, but still within walking distance of shops, the cottage is quiet and relaxing. It was clean, warm and had every amenity. The manager was friendly and welcoming. We wished we could have stayed longer to unwind. Highly recommend.

The shower had a sulfur sewer smell that nearly made my wife vomit, and I skipped showering. We paid for the hot tub, but it wasn’t ready, so we lost that reason for staying. The place was very rustic and poor value for money. It was near the river, a gas station, a grocery store and the ring road, but the local hotels were too. We did go out after midnight to see some Northern Lights. This was the worst stay of our two-week Iceland trip. Now I understand why all the hotels in town were booked. Try to avoid it. Get a tent or sleep in your car. That’s a warning from someone who’s been to 72 countries. The rest of our stays around the country were over 9.5/10, and let us enjoy Iceland on our anniversary trip and forget about this place.

The cottage was new and comfortable, and the price was very reasonable. Our host was so nice and did all he could to make our stay as good as possible. We were really satisfied and will definitely return.

I had a terrible stay and want to warn other travellers. While I was in my room, fully clothed, the owner barged in and told me to move out. The door wouldn’t lock, so I spent the night with the bed against it to prevent more visits. Someone knocked again later that night, and I ignored it. The sheets and bed covers clearly hadn’t been changed, with hairs on them. I didn’t use the towels either. Dust in the room had me sneezing all night. Thankfully, I was only there one night. The room had been fully paid for and booked in advance through our travel agency. I don’t want anyone else to have this kind of experience on their trip. It isn’t worth it.
