We didn’t stay here, but our electric vehicle was charging incredibly slowly and this campground happened to have the right charger. We ended up waiting almost three hours. The hosts were wonderful: they invited us into the common house, told us to make tea and relax, and said to take all the time we needed. I just wanted to thank them.

Out of the 11 campsites we visited on our Iceland road trip, this was my favorite. The common space feels really cozy, with comfortable sofas and lots of room. There’s even a grand piano, lol.

The camping field was spacious, with a little playground for kids, and the facilities were clean and very nice. Showers were easy to get to, and there’s plenty of indoor space for when the weather is rainy. The building marked as the campsite is a community hall, apparently built by the local community years ago, with a reception area inside. When we arrived the desk was empty, and we missed the phone number left there to call. The owner kindly came to find us so we could pay. Despite some reviews saying the campsite is permanently closed, it is open.

It felt completely abandoned. The building was open but empty, and nobody was around. The outdoor toilets, showers, and sinks had no running water, and you have to wash dishes inside the bathroom. There are indoor toilets and showers, but no outdoor bins. For eight vehicles there was just one electricity point. To find out how or when to pay, you have to call Katia at a Czech phone number. What a strange place.

The community hall has lots of room to hang out and offers a glimpse of Icelandic history. The staff were nice, the showers were free, and the prices were very reasonable. It’s a nice place, definitely not abandoned.
