The rooms were nice and laid out well, and we got fresh towels every day. The restrooms and shower were very clean. There's a big modern kitchen with a huge dining area attached, and check-in was easy with clear, detailed instructions. The cement building can get loud, especially at night, but we really liked staying here and recommend it. WiFi was pretty darn good on the first floor where we stayed and up in the kitchen on the second floor.
The rooms hold two people each and were comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and has complimentary coffee, if you can get a turn. A very large tour group took over the workspace and appliances for three hours, cooking constantly, and used the tables for their things and meals. When we finally got to the provided toaster, the breaker kept tripping because they were using their own appliances too. Communication was exceptional. I got a reply within minutes when I asked about laundry. Having laundry available was handy since it's hard to find, though it's in a building basement and payment uses an unfortunately difficult app called air wallet. You pay before seeing how much time is left on the cycle. It was a mess, and after my operator errors, one load cost about $60 Canadian. Still, we were grateful to have clean underwear and socks for our 15 day adventure. It can get quite loud when the place is full. There's no smoking range outside the entrance, so people smoked right there and the smoke got quite thick.
The beds were very comfortable, and having washers and dryers, food, and a microwave was handy. Best discount hotel I stayed in Iceland.
It was peaceful and quiet even though it's a little way out of town. The single room bed was super comfortable, and we liked having a TV. Check-in was simple and clear. I didn't use the full kitchen or large eating area, but appreciated having them, and the shared bathrooms were pretty clean with no issues. The main drawback was noise, as others have mentioned. The walls are very thin, so we could clearly hear the neighbors talking and watching TV. There was no staff on site to help with problems, though luckily we didn't have any. The window barely opened, which made the room stuffy at night. It would also be nice to have some tables and things in the backyard, which overlooks a field at sunset.
The apartment had enough facilities, and the place felt very interesting. The staff's strange smiles, the white building, and the big grey dining building all reminded me of scenes from a movie. I suspect this hostel and apartment is run by vampires. By the way, there's a graveyard next to the hostel.
