Guesthouse Bægisá

The room and bathroom were spotless, and we slept really well in the comfortable beds. Elisabeth greeted us with her friendly dogs and showed us around. There was a place to take off our shoes, which was great since mine were caked in clay, and she had a basket of knitted socks guests could use. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cookies were available whenever we wanted, and she’d even picked up a vegan snack for me. At breakfast, my friend’s soft-boiled egg was kept warm with a tiny hat. There was plenty to choose from, including oat milk for me and hummus for my bread, with sheep in the field and mountains in the distance. Elisabeth also sells some of her knitting in a hall cabinet, and I couldn’t resist buying a wool hat. I mentioned when booking that I eat plant-based, and she made sure there were options for me. We really appreciated her hospitality and only wish we could have stayed longer. If you’re driving the Ring Road counterclockwise, Guesthouse Baegisa is just after Akureyri. Google Maps led us toward the next house on the side road, but the guesthouse itself is clearly marked.

After a long day of travel and seven hours of driving with lots of stops, this was a perfect place to end the day. Elisabeth was so sweet and accommodating, and we felt at home with everything we needed. I’m still sorry I didn’t ask for the recipe for those amazing little cookies she puts out. Breakfast in the morning was incredible, and she’s thought of every detail. The views are hard to beat too. A great stop on the road, and you won’t be disappointed.

We felt at home as soon as we arrived. The hosts were warm and welcoming, and went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed, including recommendations for nearby sights and things to do. The accommodations were clean, cozy and thoughtfully set up. Bægisá is in a stunning, remote spot, with beautiful views of the Icelandic countryside and a quiet atmosphere that made it easy to unwind and get away from everyday life. It was one of the most memorable stays of our Iceland trip.

Elisabeth and her daughter were so welcoming and kind. We even got to visit the farm with them, which was a special moment. The room had its own bathroom and a really comfortable bed, and breakfast was very good. I loved the handmade things from Elisabeth, from the soap and wool socks to the cookies and all the little extras. This was the best guesthouse of our Ring Road trip.
