Geo Hotel Grindavik

Anita gave us helpful tips, and the staff were very helpful in general. Breakfast had a good range of food and drinks, and the rooms are a decent size, though sound carries a bit through the thin walls. The location makes it easy to get to natural attractions in the region. Since the 2024 evacuation, many businesses have left town. That's no fault of Geo Hotel, but it's useful to know that there's currently no grocery shop in the area. The staff at Geo are glad to help as much as they can.

Grindavik was still quite empty after the recent evacuation as of November 2025, so it felt quiet and pleasant for a bit of relaxation. Just be prepared that there isn't even a basic shop open, never mind a souvenir store. There are, though, 4 restaurants serving good food. The hotel was clean, warm, and in a very convenient spot, about a 10-minute drive from the volcano trails. Our room was a good size, with the basics including a kettle, coffee maker, and toiletries that smelled of wild Icelandic herbs. The staff were extremely friendly, especially Anita, an amazing young Polish woman who went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. Breakfast was very good, with plenty of options. We can 100% recommend staying here.

I paid in full when I booked through Booking.com, then had to cancel within the cancellation period after my plans changed. Nearly a month later, and despite repeatedly contacting the property through Booking.com, I still haven't received my refund. Either this hotel is bogus or the people running it are very dishonest. Don't book with this provider, as they will steal your money if you cancel within the cancellation period.

The breakfast was tasty and had plenty of variety, like you'd find in 6* hotels. It's a quiet hotel with easy access. The rooms are standard, with fruit and Prosecco as a welcome. There's a cafe machine in the room.
