The views were fantastic, and the cabin was decent overall, though small and not well designed. The bed was against a wall, the bathroom cramped, and the place wasn’t the cleanest, but it was okay. The water smelled worse than anywhere else we encountered on the trip, but that’s part of the fun. The hot tubs felt overrated. From our cabin, they were downhill and a five-minute walk through the bush in the cold, and robes would have been better. We booked through Expedia, and the property contacted us in advance by email through the Godo Property platform. That was much appreciated, especially compared with places that just gave us a building number and instructions. It’s an autonomous property, but they ran it like a professional business. At the reception office, there were zero waste amenities, food, and cooking items left by other guests, which was nice. You can also pick up towels there for the GeoSea.

We had a beautiful moment seeing the aurora right outside our chalet. By day, you can walk around and take in the Icelandic nature and landscape. Kaldbaks-Kot is a special, cozy place in Húsavík, and we’ll definitely come back. Our chalet faced the bay and had an African style that seemed odd at first, given we were in Iceland. But that style reflects the owner’s life and travel experiences, spread throughout this amazing place, and we appreciated it. Everything in the chalet was perfect, carefully crafted and furnished. A magical place, surrounded by nature and remarkable scenery: birds, trees, lakes, the sea, and mountains. Our small chalet was cozy, well laid out, and equipped. I’d love to return, and would recommend it to friends and family. Thanks for creating this place.

The birdlife here is incredible. Right outside the cottage we saw horned grebes, tufted ducks, greylag geese, mergansers, a red necked phalarope, black headed gulls, and Arctic terns. Húsavík is good for birding too: guillemots and puffins can be spotted on the water, and puffins and fulmars nest on nearby cliffs. Kaldbaks was a perfect place to return to after exploring northern Iceland each day, with so many sights within an hour’s drive. We loved our stay and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
