We stopped for a late lunch today even though we weren’t staying at the hotel, and it turned out to be a fun stop. The whole village was built around this former boarding school, which dates back to the late 20s and is now a hotel and restaurant. The views, atmosphere, and service were amazing, and our server was so sweet. I had the fish and chips, made with locally caught Cod and hand battered and fried. It was perhaps the best I’ve ever had. My wife loved her chicken salad. If you’re driving by, definitely stop for a meal and a history lesson about the area.

We had the family apartment, with our own kitchen and living room, and it was perfect for the five of us. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was lots of antique furniture in the lobby, plus toys and books for kids. The location worked perfectly for visiting geysir and thingvellir, and we saw the Northern Lights on our first night.

This place could be a lively, welcoming spot for guests or the community, but right now it needs maintenance and modernizing. The billiard table is torn and can’t be used, and there’s only one dart for the dart setup. Those may seem like small things, but they affect the experience. With some basic repairs and upgrades, it could become a real highlight instead of feeling forgotten.

The service was excellent, and breakfast was good, though there were no scrambled eggs. There’s no exercise room. The rooms are well appointed but not luxurious, and most have a shared bathroom. The price seems appropriate for that.

The breakfast was poor, and there was nowhere to eat on-site if you brought your own food. The room was small and outdated, with a lamp but no nearby socket to plug it into, which seemed poorly thought out. For the price, I was disappointed. You can get better quality for the same rate.
