Brattagata Guesthouse Apartments

We spent a week here as a family with kids, renting the whole first floor. It was a three-bedroom, two-bath apartment, and even had a swing set in the backyard. The downtown location made it easy to walk just about everywhere, with a taxi stop outside when we needed one. It’s mostly self-service, though the owner replied within 24 hours when we had a small request. The Wi-Fi worked fine, the beds were fairly comfortable, and the curtains kept the rooms dark. We were very happy here and would come back. We’ve recommended it to others too.

I’ve stayed here twice, one night each time. The room makes a difference: the lower ones open straight onto the street at pedestrian level, so they’re less appealing, while the higher rooms at the back are wonderful. The host is cheerful and friendly, and breakfast is good. A very solid place to stay in Reykjavik.

A clean, decent place right in the middle of Reyjavik, with everything within walking distance. The landing path for the airport runs right above it, though, so planes can wake you up. The beds were prepared and clean, but sleep comfort was only average. The mattresses were much too soft, and the sofa beds were so thin you could feel the springs. It’s an okay stay, but the beds really need attention.

The one good thing is the location. Management has changed, and there’s no longer a common space. If you book a “family studio,” be aware that it’s in the garage, seriously. The walls are paper-thin, so street and neighbor noise comes right through. There was mold in the bathroom, the mirror light didn’t work, and the space was extremely small for four. Nothing separates the bed from the couch, such as a bookcase or screen. Our friends chose another hotel rather than stay there. It’s cheap, but still far too expensive for what you get.
