Grey Apartments

The kitchen has everything we needed, and the beds were comfortable. The shower gives off a slightly odd smell when the hot water runs, but I looked it up and found that it comes from the geothermal energy, pretty efficient. Watch your head upstairs. This cozy apartment is in central Reykjavik, with exposed beams and charmingly dated decor that give it a rustic feel. Attractions are within walking distance, and there’s an ice cream shop directly across the street.

The location is excellent, close to the water for late walks while trying to see the northern lights, and the price was good. Getting in was easy, the owner responded quickly when needed, and I’d stay again. The first impression was surprisingly good for an apartment in central Reykjavik at that price. There was no washing machine, which surprised us given how much room there is. I think the place used to be one house, because you can hear people upstairs easily. Our upstairs guests were very loud at times, though we were out most of the time, so it wasn't too bad. Overall, a very good stay with few issues.

Getting into the apartment was easy, and it’s conveniently located within walking distance of the city center. The bed was comfortable, and the place was well stocked. It also has a smart TV.

The kitchen was poorly equipped, with very little cutlery or crockery, and needs more for anyone expected to cook there. I also had a problem with my room: it was smaller than the one I booked, on a lower floor. I chose the top floor because reviews mentioned street noise and noise from rooms above. After I called Grey Apartments, they first denied the mismatch, then admitted their mistake after some arguing and offered a partial refund. The money did come through, but it didn't make up for the disturbed, sleepless nights. On the lower floor, I could hear both street noise and people walking overhead. Grey Apartments blamed Booking.com for the wrong images and booking mix-up, but those images are uploaded by them and should show the actual rooms. They need to describe room sizes accurately and be honest about noise from the street and upper floors, as well as improve the soundproofing. Renting apartments when these known problems remain is unfair to guests. I would NOT recommend booking here unless you're desperate, at least until they improve the soundproofing and put correct images on Booking.com so people know what they're reserving.
