We were offered just €90 for a stay that cost more than €300 per night, even though the room we ended up in was clearly below the standard and conditions of our booking. The bathroom smelled, and the living room curtains were ripped. What bothered me most was the lack of a proper resolution or accountability. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. After a 24-hour flight delay and diversion, we arrived at 2 a.m. to find our assigned room unprepared, with used sheets, a dirty bathroom, and towels strewn on the floor. To their credit, the call handler was courteous and arranged another property. But we had to walk there in the middle of the night with our elderly father. The alternative had one double bed for four guests and no extra bedding. At 3 a.m., we had little choice but to accept it. We booked through booking and stayed in August. I would add photos, but you really don't need to see a used room.
Studio #5 was clean, but very worn, and the walls were really dirty. The sofa sat so low it seemed the legs had been removed, with us sitting almost on the floor. It's close to everything, though parking is pricey and finding a free spot can be challenging. The area is noisy, and the studios definitely aren't soundproof.
We used a basement suite at Saga Studios as our base for a week in Reykjavik. It was clean, practical, and good value for a weeklong stay. The two single beds made things interesting as a couple, a bit like summer camp with extra jet lag. The sofa wasn't great for a Netflix marathon, but we spent most of our time exploring the city anyway.
For the price, it was great. The room was just missing a microwave for reheating food. Otherwise it was perfect and could easily fit a family of 4, with groceries and restaurants nearby and the bus terminal for excursions only a few minutes' walk away.
DO NOT STAY HERE. The studio had an unbearable sewage and fish smell coming from the drain. It wasn't the usual sulphur smell you'd expect in Iceland, and it was unlike anything we came across in the five other hotels and airbnbs we stayed in. When we arrived, the bathroom drain had been left open and all the windows were open too, which suggested the providers knew about the issue but hadn't told us beforehand. We contacted the team and were repeatedly told this was usual. If so, this doesn't seem like a safe place to stay in Iceland. We had to spend time elsewhere at our own cost, and Saga Studios refused to offer any compensation. Poor hygiene and poor service.
