Summerday Guesthouse

The managers were friendly and pointed out where to catch the bus, which ones to take, and the 24-hour grocery store a short walk away. The location is handy for buses downtown and pickups from tour companies like Reykjavik Excursions, Icelandic Mountain Guides, and Dive.IS. It’s a guesthouse with a full kitchen and some privacy. The bathrooms and showers are shared, but clean and easy to get to.

There’s plenty of room to work at the large office desk, and the shared kitchen is useful too. The shared bathroom wasn’t very comfortable in winter. Its heating didn’t work, and the window was usually left open for fresh air.

The laundry service was the one thing we really disliked. Doing it ourselves would have been nice, but guests can’t use the washer and dryer. They did our laundry for €30, which is reaaaaaaally expensive. There aren’t any laundromats in Reykjavik, and they take advantage of that. The guesthouse we’re staying at now charges around €6 for comparison. We did enjoy our stay otherwise. The place was cuter than we expected, with a really comfortable big living room. The large kitchen can fit several people at once, though it could use a few more dishes. Most of the showers are roomy, from the ones we tried, but the water drains very slowly so it’s hard to leave the floor as clean as you’d like. They clean every day, and it isn’t dirty.

The bathroom was always clean and the kitchen was good, but I wouldn’t stay here alone in room n 002. That room has only a bed, in a tiny, cold space with no heater and barely enough room for luggage. Other rooms looked fine, with sinks and heaters, but this is the worst room in the house for a solo guest. The flower shop’s strong light shines in all night. Sad, you have to cover your eyes to sleep.
