iStay Cottages

A very cozy, clean hotel with a cottage or bungalow feel, and really convenient for an early flight since it's close to the airport. There's a hot tub, but we arrived too late to use it. The area also seemed secluded enough for northern lights viewing, though unfortunately there weren't any the day we were there.

We found this to be the least expensive option after a long layover, with other hotels costing quite a bit. I was very happy with our stay. The cabin was roomy and clean, and the bathroom was nice. We visited in mid-June, and even around 1am, after the sun had set, it was still bright outside. The blackout curtains made it easy to sleep. I'd happily stay there again.

We needed somewhere near the airport to crash for a few hours overnight, and this was the cheapest, closest option we found. Our Twin Cottage with a shared bathroom cost about 145 euros and matched the listing. The room was small but just right, and the bathroom was only a few steps away and very clean. The common kitchen was well stocked. The heater took ages to warm the room, though the blankets were pretty warm. It's in the middle of nowhere, with no public transport and cabs that are incredibly hard to find. There's a small private parking lot, which is great if you're driving.

We spent the day driving around the Golden Circle and chose this place for our last night because our morning flight meant we wouldn't have time to enjoy Reykjavik. Staying there also spared us an early drive through traffic and construction. It's only 7 minutes from the airport, and we had a great fish and chips dinner at a little family restaurant in the village. The place is clean and quiet, though not fancy. We didn't receive the email with the lock box code, and there are no staff on site. Our travel service managed to get the code for us.
