We were lucky enough to get a midnight call saying The Lights were out, and saw them. The location is peaceful and a little remote, yet close enough to plenty of things to see and do. Our cabins were cute, spotless, comfortable, and nicely equipped, though not especially luxurious. The outdoor rock spa bath was fantastic, especially with the complimentary mini bar bubbles and the horses looking on. Dinner was excellent: it’s a set menu and every dish was delicious. We tried the wine pairing too. The wines weren't top tier, but they were good enough and staff offered plenty of top-ups. It costs a lot, as you'd expect in Iceland, but didn't feel unreasonable. Breakfast buffet was good, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a fabulous stay at Torfus.

The stay and the staff were fantastic, and the food and wine pairings were among the best we had. Only Ox, with its Michelin star, edged them out a little. It's easily the best place we've stayed in Iceland. The price is clearly higher than most, but you get what you pay for. Highly recommend.

Our group of eight all loved staying at Torfhús Retreat, and it was our favorite of all the places we visited in Iceland. The views were spectacular, and we got to see the Northern Lights. We also had the chef’s tasting menu, and I’ll be dreaming about those meals. The people working there were wonderful, and our waiter Liviu made an already amazing dinner feel even more special. If you get the chance to stay, take it.

The restaurant was the standout for us. The food was mind-blowing, even better than what we had at the Michelin Star Moss restaurant at the Blue Lagoon. The staff were lovely and friendly, and the wine was delicious. We spent three days at Torfhus just before Christmas. Its gorgeous setting, private luxurious cabins, and lovely hot pools made the stay feel magical. They offer an aurora wake-up service, and we saw the lights on our first night. Couldn't recommend it enough.

The restaurant made our stay: we loved the surprise dinner menu, and when my partner said he couldn't eat fish or seafood, they adjusted it without any trouble. The wine pairings were excellent, with generous pours and top-ups. Our waiter and the rest of the wait staff were fantastic, friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Breakfast was a very good 10/10 too, with tea, coffee, juice, cured meats, cheese, bread, jams, scrambled eggs, and bacon. It's served buffet-style from 7am to 10:30am. We stayed two nights, from 29th to 31st December 2025, in Odin 2. The cabin was spotless, comfortable, and warm from the underfloor heating. The bed, pillows, duvet, and spare blankets were great. There was some luggage storage under the bed and a couple of places to hang clothes, though I would've liked more storage. The living area had a nice sofa and TV. The complimentary mini bar had a couple of beers, soft drinks, and a small bottle of champagne. The bathroom was small but nicely fitted, with a very hot shower and strong water pressure. There wasn't much room for toiletries beyond the little shelf under the mirror above the sink. No bathtub, but that didn't bother us because the geothermal pool outside was amazing. It was shared by two other cabins, but we never saw anyone else use it and had it to ourselves both nights. Getting in was the one awkward part. We arrived around 6pm, but the gate had no sensor or call button, and phone signal was very poor. We waited ten minutes for someone to leave so we could drive in. An intercom would help. Once inside, check-in was smooth, and the receptionist was friendly and helpful, showing us the cabin and restaurant. We had a wonderful time at Torfhús and would return. Highly recommend it when visiting Iceland.
