Höfðagata Guesthouse

The view through the big picture window was spectacular, and the spacious living and dining room was a nice place to unwind. It’s a cozy guesthouse in beautiful Stykkishólmur, a town surrounded by water. Booking was easy, and check-in was self-service. Our bedroom and the shared bathroom were comfortable and clean. The kitchen had plenty of dishes and cooking utensils, plus a dishwasher. Bónus grocery store, Stykkið Pizzagerð, and the community swimming pool are all about a five-minute walk away.

2.5 stars :( The location was good, parking was easy, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom surfaces were clean. But the house had clearly been out of toilet paper well before we got there. Two days in, there were no paper towels left either, since guests had resorted to using them as toilet paper. I called the number on the reservation to ask for more. The property owner sounded confused and asked how I got his number, but someone arrived with toilet paper within an hour. I also found moldy dishes sitting in the dishwasher, clearly untouched for a while. I was left thinking the place was disorganized and the manager barely bothered to clean. I’d rate it 3.5 or even 4 stars if it had been properly cleaned and stocked. Travel options are limited out here, but this guesthouse cost far too much to be so unprepared for guests.

Even out in the middle of nowhere, this was one of the best GuestHouse stays in Iceland. You share the house with guests from five other rooms, but there’s enough space to feel like you have it to yourself. There’s also a hot tub you can use.

A great B&B with clean rooms and nice shared accommodation. You can make your own meal in the kitchen, then relax in the hottub and watch the Northern light.
