Guesthouse Tálknafjörður

The biggest letdown was the condition of the place. It was very dirty and worn, from the bedrooms to the bathrooms, with damaged walls, a broken TV and a smashed remote. The electrical outlets looked frightening, and the curtains did little to block the summer light. We knew the bathroom and toilet would be shared, but we hadn’t expected such poor cleanliness. The breakfast wasn’t good either, and the owners didn’t seem warm or welcoming. We booked for four and asked to have rooms next to each other, but were put in rooms 4 and 7, one upstairs and one downstairs. There was also a lot of noise from the owners’ family, and kids were still shouting outside at night. The whole stay put us in a bad mood. We were glad to find a place in this area after seeing so many positive Booking.com reviews, but it was nothing like we expected. This was our fourth trip to Iceland, and our most disappointing guesthouse experience there. We hope they make a lot of improvements.

The two kitchens were fine for cooking, and the small rooms were clean and adequate. We stayed for two nights in May 2026 at this typical guesthouse, with self-check-in and only a few rooms. The windows let in light, though, and the bathrooms were tiny and in poor condition. A tour group arrived during our stay and kept us awake with noise until 1:00 AM. The walls are thin, so you can hear everything. We asked the owner through Booking.com whether any compensation might be offered for the disruption, but got no reply.

Some rooms didn't have bath towels. The bathrooms and toilets are shared.

The accommodation feels dated, and the bathroom was small and dingy.
