San Biagio Resort

The generous breakfast and friendly staff, who were happy to answer questions and share information, made this a relaxing place. The rooms are pleasantly furnished, with the tables arranged nicely, and the setting is charming. It has a peaceful, almost monastic feel, perhaps because the old cloister character has been preserved.

It's a nice idea to turn a convent into a resort, and the property lives up to it with convenience, cleanliness, and friendly management. The location is excellent: a five-minute walk to the center, only minutes from the highway entrance, and within half an hour of some of Sicily's loveliest places. The rooms are comfortable, though there's no mini-bar. Staff can keep things cold at the bar, and Alberto at reception was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast has a good range, from excellent croissants to hard-boiled eggs. I'd recommend it for short or long stays, whether you're in Sicily for a holiday, a rest, or work. One drawback: I understand the 24-hour service, but €5 for a 1.5-liter Coke seemed excessive. Even in Taormina I didn't pay that much.

Mr. Giovanni made us feel welcome straight away and gave us useful tips for enjoying Acireale. The convent itself is peaceful, just right for a restful break, with a lovely camellia in the little indoor kiosk. Our room was clean and pleasant, if not very big, and had wonderfully high ceilings. A beautiful old Capuchin convent up in the city. I'd recommend it.

For a place described as a 4-star hotel, the room and bathroom felt very small and short on basics. There was no mini-fridge, shelving, drawers, or little table, and we couldn't find a usable power outlet. The bathroom fittings and the other amenities were a poor selection.
