The staff were very friendly, and the beach was large and well organized, but the setup and upkeep need attention. We stayed a week at El Chico Residence, right on the seafront. It looks nice outside, but on arrival there was nobody to greet us. We waited until 4:00 PM for the afternoon shift, with only the cleaning lady around, so we went for a walk and came back. We got two access cards for the rooms, but didn’t receive the garage key for the elevator until the next day. The garage was filthy, cluttered with things and covered in salt efflorescence, or saltpetre, apparently from dampness. There were lots of mosquitoes, and the saltpetre stuck to the underside of my car. As soon as I got home, I had to find a car wash. The garage was also hard to use. There were no signs showing where to switch on the lights or find the elevator, so we tried different doors until we worked it out. There was no way to drive out from inside. The day before we left, they made a few changes and gave the garage a quick clean. To get the car out, one person had to go outside and open the gate while the other drove. The first-floor room was nice and had what we needed for a few days. But although it was set up for four people, the balcony only had a tiny table for two, and the sun beat down on it all day so it was impossible to sit there. The room and stairwell windows were filthy, and the elevator was dirty too, with marks left if you accidentally bumped anything. The doors were always open and nobody was supervising, so anyone could come in at any time, day or night. Organization was poor overall. Also, the fire prevention rules kept in the closet said gas or electric stoves were absolutely prohibited in the room, even though the kitchenette had two electric burners.
