The room itself was basic but okay, though the wardrobe was falling apart and seems to have been broken for some time. What really made this stay so disappointing was how we were treated when we arrived. We were in Albenga early and asked to leave our bags, but the host said no, which was fine. They knew we were nearby, yet when check-in time came at 3 PM, we had no instructions. We rang the bell and got no answer until we sent a message, and then they finally sent the details. The room hadn't been cleaned. The sheets were dirty, used towels and rubbish were still there, and there was no toilet paper, even though we were told we could use the bathroom. We found the cleaner, who asked us to come back in 15 minutes. While they cleaned, we sat in the piazza and tried messaging the host again, but got no reply. We called Booking.com, and they contacted the host, who apparently said the rest of our stay would go smoothly. It was after 4 PM when the host told us the room was ready. There was no apology. Instead, they criticized us for contacting Booking, said it wasn't necessary or a big deal, and told us we were on holiday and could just wait if the room wasn't ready. Our time had been wasted, our messages ignored, and the room we were paying for wasn't ready, but they acted as if none of that mattered. The photos show the condition we found it in. A simple apology would have helped, but the response was dismissive and condescending. Check the other reviews too, especially the replies to anything less than positive. This host doesn't meet basic hospitality standards. I was truly disappointed and would stay somewhere else.
