Hotel Croce di Amalfi

Breakfast was delicious every morning, and the staff were so kind and helpful. The location and price were perfect. I’d stay here again!

The adjoining sliding door was between our room and another room where guests were staying. At first, we thought it was a cleaning cupboard, but we could hear their every conversation, laugh, and cough through the locked door. It felt like we had no privacy, and we couldn’t sleep when they stayed up late. We paid 200 euro a night for this. The air conditioning was the main problem. Amalfi is hot, and ours mostly blew hot air, with only occasional cold air. After being out in 35 degree heat all day, coming back to a room that stayed around 33-36 degrees was awful. Other guests were complaining about the same issue. Sleeping was terrible, and the room was hotter than outside. Opening the window just let in bugs. The only way to keep it somewhat bearable was to leave the AC on all day, but cleaners switched it off and opened the window while cleaning, letting the Amalfi bugs in. When we raised the issue, staff said they’d known about it for a long time, gave an insincere “sorry,” and offered no solution. My partner and I travelled all over Europe and stayed in more than 15 hotels, and this was by far the worst. It completely ruined our experience of an otherwise beautiful part of the world. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, and I’m bewildered it has decent reviews.

We had a very nice stay overall, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We left a valuable necklace behind, and they coordinated getting it back to us. The location is great, central to the coast and everything it offers. As constructive feedback, the hotel could use some improvements: repainting walls and ceilings, replacing light bulbs, and modernizing some of the furniture and bedding.

The room felt a little small, though that seems common in European hotels, and we weren't planning to spend much time in it anyway. The terrace overlooking the water was lovely for breakfast or another meal, and from the other side of the hotel you get a view of Amalfi against the cliffs. The place is nice, the staff friendly and helpful, and the location right in the center is great.
