Hotel Residenza Sole - Guest House

I’m so grateful this hotel took me in at the last minute. They allowed dogs, had a room for May 14-17, and the woman who answered my call stayed late to check me in. Reception closes at 9:30 pm, but when I said I’d arrive around 10, she said she’d wait. I got there at about 10:15 and called a few times to keep her updated. She came out to find me when I couldn’t work out where the hotel was, on the third floor up the stairs beside the pizza place, and helped with my luggage. She was so friendly and helpful that my stress and anger from the other hotel started to melt away. I’d arrived from Rome with luggage, taken a Pompeii tour, and then dragged everything around Positano while trying to find the other hotel, return to the bus station, and find a taxi. I had two rolling bags, a huge backpack, and my dog, and was exhausted, stressed, and upset. I’d booked lacaravellapositano months ago with a dog and late check-in, but they didn’t have the room I’d requested and paid for. The room they gave me had a floating staircase that I was afraid my dog could fall from and get badly hurt or die. I argued with them, but no other room was available, so I had to cancel for my dog’s safety, including while I was on tours. I don’t recommend that hotel. It was around 7-8 pm, and lots of hotels don’t take dogs, so I was frantically calling places to find a same-day room that would accept us at 10 pm. This hotel was cheap, and the room was huge, with the biggest shower I’d had in Italy, including at much more expensive hotels in Venice, Florence, and Rome. I don’t want to get my hair wet every day, so I really appreciated having space to move it out of the way. The room had A/C with a remote, a fridge in the closet, a hair dryer, hangers, and extra blankets. The blankets had a slight storage smell, but that was fine. The sheets were crisp and clean. The towels looked laundered but weren’t crisp, and I was okay using them. They gave me extra towels, perhaps because I was staying three nights, perhaps because that’s their usual set: three bath towels, two medium towels, and a floor towel. The breakfast was free and the view from the breakfast area was nice. The tables and chairs were cute, and I’ll try the roof later if I can. Breakfast ran from 8 to 10 am. I woke at 9:30 after being tired from the day before, brushed my teeth, ate, and came back to rest a bit before exploring Amalfi. There was construction in a few nearby spots, but it didn’t wake me. I usually get up early and leave at sunrise to avoid crowds, but that day I slept in. I’m happy with the room, staff, and breakfast. They went out of their way to make things comfortable, and I rate it 10/10. Without them, I might have ended up sleeping on the street.
