Hotel La Tonnara

The best thing about La Tonnara Hotel was its position right across from a nice beach. We rented chairs with umbrellas and loungers, but towels weren't included, which seemed odd since I don't usually pack one for a European vacation. Our room had a dated, 1980s look, though the huge front window gave us a wonderful view of the beach, sunrise, and sunsets, and the bathroom was spacious. The two nights we spent there in mid-July were miserable. It was around 35 degrees Celsius, and the hotel turns off the air conditioning at different times during the day. We hadn't been told about that when booking. The room was hot when we arrived, so I called reception. The person said the air conditioning was working, but gave no explanation and didn't send anyone to check. We only found out about the operating hours a couple of hours later, when we saw a sign in the elevator. Turning it off in the height of summer is absurd. We'd booked breakfast and dinner, but the food wasn't very good. The pasta starter was all right. For the main course, our choices were meat, fish, or a plate of vegetables. We picked the meat and got a couple of pieces of chicken without vegetables or any other sides. It seemed you had to choose the meat or the sides. The third course was usually some kind of salad. If we'd known the meals were like that, we wouldn't have bought the plan, since there are lots of good places nearby if you can drive. I wasn't happy with the stay and definitely wouldn't come back.

The restaurant food was unbelievably good, from fresh seafood and pasta to the appetizers. And the beach is fantastic, only a few yards from the lobby. We were able to stay here, and the room rate with the beach package and breakfast was hard to beat.

Really friendly staff, spacious clean rooms with a lovely view, and a large bathroom. The beach and sea are beautiful too.
