Maison del Magra

We were comfortable here, and the restaurant was a real highlight. The fresh fish and good wine were lovely, and the dishes looked so superb I wish I’d taken photos. Absolutely delicious 😋

We visited in April, when the town felt peaceful and its people were friendly. This is a welcoming little family-run hotel with spacious, very clean rooms. The owner and her son were both so kind; he made delicious croissants for breakfast. There wasn’t much variety, and you had to order breakfast when you arrived, but what we had was great. The restaurant is run by a Michelin-starred chef. Prices felt reasonable, about what you’d pay at a restaurant in Buenos Aires at the time.

The room felt dated, though it was very clean, and the bathroom had been renovated and was perfect, bidet included, as you’d hope for in Italy. Staff were well trained, polite, and friendly. The hotel sits on the banks of the Magra River near its mouth and is well maintained, though reception is cramped around a small table or desk. Breakfast wasn’t included. In September it depends on how many guests request it, so a small group may not be able to get it. If it is available, it costs €10 per person. There’s a bar next door, 20 meters away, where you can get breakfast. Would I return? NI 👎
