Hotel Il Girasole

From the terrace you can see Ischia Island, and in the mornings and evenings there are birds chirping. One night we’d gone to bed early and woke around 4 o’clock in the morning to quite loud birdsong. It was nice, though, and didn’t stop us from falling back asleep. You don’t hear sounds like that in the city. The hotel is about 10 minutes from the city centre, in a quieter part of town. The breakfast selection was thoughtful, and the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. There’s also a small vintage (almost) car used as a shuttle, which was a nice touch. The staff, including Domenico, Fabio, and the others, were very friendly and welcoming. Other guests, including people in neighbouring rooms, were friendly too. We could sometimes hear people coughing or talking nearby, but it didn’t bother us. At breakfast, I asked a girl who looked like a pastry chef whether she had made the cakes. She proudly said yes. The next morning I told her they’d been so nice and that I was looking forward to having them again; she thanked me. Later, another guest asked about them, and this time she said they came from northern Italy. Either way, I think she probably didn’t want to ruin my excitement. Saying she’d made them locally added to the experience for me, and honestly, it worked. The price is expensive, but that’s quite normal for this area and season. I’d definitely recommend the hotel and will happily come back one day.

We came from New York in September, and the sunset was one of the best I’ve ever seen. This was one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve stayed in, with jaw dropping views and scenery, a beautiful pool, and a romantic, quiet, relaxing feel. The staff were professional and accommodating. It had the feel of an old school Italian hotel, and the whole experience was amazing. Shout out to Massamo, who went above and beyond for us!

The quiet setting up in Anacapri made this feel like a real hideaway, with lovely sea and sunset views from the pool and the little table outside our room. Even with the hotel full, it stayed peaceful, and we barely heard other guests. Our room and bathroom were spotless, the bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning handled the hot weather better than any I’ve used. The staff were kind throughout. They helped when my wife was ill, arranged quick, reasonably priced laundry, and even got takeout delivered from a local restaurant. They also gave us a free shuttle to a restaurant along an even quieter stretch of coast. Before the trip, they sent useful advice and helped with ferry tickets to and from Naples. The free port transfers on arrival and departure were a big help given the hotel’s location. Breakfast was simple, with enough variety, and clearly prepared with care. This was one of the most relaxing and beautiful places I’ve stayed. We’d love to come back for longer.

Getting to Anacapri town center was easy, and the gardens and pool look out over the Mediterranean. The hotel itself is lovely, though anyone with mobility issues should know there’s a walk to places where a taxi can drop you off or collect you. The staff were extremely thoughtful. They picked my family up from the port in a van, checked whether the Blue Grotto was open, and arranged a table at a local restaurant. Breakfast was splendid too, with meats, cheeses, and pastries laid out in a dining room overlooking the sea. A beautiful spot for a restful stay on Capri.
