Hotel Alpen

We had a great family time, and I want to thank everyone at the hotel. It’s very family-oriented, with friendly, helpful staff. Tony & Federica kept our kids and the other families’ children entertained and well looked after, and Erica ran the clean, good-sized spa facilities well. A couple of things could be better. Breakfast was fresh, but the selection was limited, especially later in the morning. And having to choose dinner the night before from a limited menu wasn’t easy for me. Maybe a buffet option would help.

We booked half board for four days and were given an old room. It was clean and tidy, but really only suitable for sleeping. The bed wasn’t very comfortable, just a mattress on an iron frame, and the bathroom was small, with a very small shower. There was hot water all day. The pool had a stream or air massage, and there was a fairly large sauna and steam cabin. The wellness area needs some attention, though. Small tiles are missing in both the hot tub and steam cabin. Overall, it’s quite a good place to stay.

The staff were mostly helpful, especially the coffee barman, who’s also the technician. Getting around town was easy, and there were other nice restaurants nearby. We booked Alpen because most hotels close by were full. The grounds feel tired, the rooms have an old European style, and the pool area is small. Breakfast didn’t offer much choice. We tried the three-course dinner for €12, so what can you expect. Bring slippers, a toothbrush and toiletries, a bathrobe for the pool area (or you can hire one for €5), and a swim cap for the pool and sauna (or buy one there for €3).

It didn’t feel like good value. You have to buy a swimming cap to use the pool, and wellness is limited to one hour a day with advance reservation. It also closes at 19h. I fell on the stairs from the ski room because they had no rubber on them, just bare pavement. The cable car station is 700 m from the apartment, downhill.
