After a long day riding, we arrived to find the hotel in the middle of nowhere. The car park was full of dog poo, there was a dog hanging around, and there wasn’t room for our three motorcycles. A very obnoxious man greeted us and said we were too late for food. When we asked when the restaurant closed, he said it wasn’t a restaurant, but his mother could cook a set three-course meal for a fixed price per person. There was no choice, take it or leave it. We asked about a bar and were told there wasn’t one, though there were a few beers and wines in a room where we could sit. The Booking.com advert clearly listed a restaurant and bar, so we politely said we thought we’d booked the wrong place and asked for a refund. We still haven’t received anything back. I held off leaving feedback for long enough. Avoid it, and don’t get misled by the advert’s pictures. We’re now pursuing this legally.

Maison du Noyer is in the little village of Excenex, near the church, in a beautifully renovated 13th-century house full of charm. The garden has cherry trees and tables where you can eat outside surrounded by nature. Our rooms were spotless, charming, and each had its own personality. Philippe treated us so well. We arrived by bike from Courmayeur very hungry, with no restaurant nearby, but Maison du Noyer offered a full dinner: starter, main course, and dessert, all home-cooked by Philippe’s mother. There were local wines à la carte too. Breakfast the next morning was excellent before we got back on the road. The rates are very affordable for what you get. I’d strongly recommend it to anyone travelling around Aosta who wants a quiet, authentic, charming place in the mountains. Thank you for the hospitality!

After breaking down at the top of St Bernard Pass in the Alps, then losing another hour and a half behind a car crash, our camping plan fell apart. We turned up at Maison Du-Noyer at 9.30pm with no reservation and barely any Italian, and were welcomed into a warm, wonderful home. They asked if we’d eaten and took great care of us. The room was clean, cozy, and delightful, the garden and balcony were beautiful, and the host was an absolute delight. The price was very reasonable and breakfast was delicious. We were so grateful to be looked after so well after such a stressful day.
