Residence Belvedere, Grado

Odd, old-fashioned place. They ask you to hand over your passport at check-in, which I refused. Since I was leaving early on my bike, the check-in staff kept talking about preparing a file for the night watchman. None of the toilets in the block had seats or toilet paper, and some cubicles only had a hand basin. On the plus side, it’s cheap, there’s a restaurant and supermarket on site, and the staff were friendly.

The campsite is great, clean, and well equipped, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant and supermarket are good too. The one drawback was that the beach water looked dirty, so we couldn’t swim there.

We spotted a hare, fireflies, and other wildlife during a quiet stay at this peaceful site. It’s a large campsite among pine woods on the lagoon shore, with good-sized pitches. There are several cycling routes starting from the site, and it’s an easy ride to lovely Grado. The facilities were okay, with good hot showers. There are no toilet seats or toilet paper, though that’s not unusual in Italy. There’s a supermarket, restaurant, and beach bar on site. Wifi costs €5 a day, which feels a bit expensive.

We spent a pleasant week here as a family with two little kids, both under five. The lagoon was great for them, although it isn’t good for swimming. The wash block was always clean, and it was quiet at night. A perfect spot for families with young children.
