B&b Amiata

I hope to return because I had a wonderful stay. The Italian-style breakfast was delicious, with coffee or something similar, plus pasta or dessert, and everything was excellent. The building is right in the center of Arcidosso, near the ACI bank and post office. There’s a square across from it, a restaurant downstairs, a butcher selling excellent meat, and a lively atmosphere all around. We were traveling with family and friends for two days in Val d'Orcia. After spending a day among the tuff rock of Pitigliano, Sorano, and Sovana, we booked this place on the way to Montalcino. I called the owner in the afternoon, and he was very kind. He, his wife, and daughter welcomed us and checked us in at their restaurant downstairs. We decided to book a table for dinner while we were there. After climbing the stairs, we found our renovated rooms. They were lovely, though not very large, and had all the necessary comforts. The bed and linens smelled fresh and were super clean. The bathroom was spacious, there was plenty of light, and my room had a lovely little balcony at the back overlooking nature, a nice place to relax. Best wishes, Simone Cangi and family!

We were lucky to have booked just one night. The cleanliness was disappointing: the toilet was dirty, there was black mold on the shower seals, and the windows hadn’t been cleaned. The mattress would already have seemed old 20 years ago.

The room was new, but the floor was very dirty. The bathroom door wouldn’t stay shut and opened easily, the windows were so high they blocked the view, and the sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable in place of a double bed. It’s in the town center, and we did get a kind welcome, though it was very minimal. I had to go to the owner’s butcher shop, which wasn’t ideal. At the restaurant we waited an hour and 40 minutes for the grilled meat. The next morning we had breakfast at another bar because theirs was closed for a shift. Maybe they should take on fewer things and do them well, instead of running a B&B, bar, restaurant, and butcher shop all at once.

The room stayed quiet even though it faced the square. It was clean, with a large bathroom and new doors and fixtures. The woman serving breakfast deserves a special mention, she was kind, friendly, and welcoming. The cleanliness of the armchairs in the room was another detail that stood out.
