B&B Harem

The hospitality from Marco and Giorgia really made the stay. They’re such gracious hosts. This is a peaceful place, so anyone looking for nightlife should stay away. And the dawn comes dressed in pink, orange, and apricot. Getting there means driving along lots of S-shaped roads, which would be a lot of fun on a motorbike. From the property, it’s easy to reach all kinds of excursion spots, as well as art centers and some of Italy’s finest wineries. The Tibetan-Buddhist center nearby is one of Europe’s largest and most beautiful, and it has a real sense of peace. Harem is a few kilometers from Arcidosso, perched on Mount Amiata. The name itself suggests tranquility. Outside, the dense vegetation, some of it edible, can make you wonder where you’ve ended up. But look closer and there’s a whirlpool tub, massage table, gazebo, and hammocks, perfect for watching the stars in the evening sky, which is blue and free of light pollution. The rooms have everything you need and are kept with great care. There’s even a little table of spices, fragrances, and perfumes, and everything seems thought through for different tastes. Cleanliness is everywhere, and just being here feels satisfying. Breakfast was varied and plentiful, with some things made by the managers themselves, including blackberry and fig jams from fruit growing wild nearby. The ceramic and porcelain glasses, plates, and cutlery look like they came from an old forge. Well done, Giorgia and Marco. No cheap tableware or plastic, and there’s no TV either, which is great.

It’s a quiet spot, just right for relaxing. Breakfast was good, but there’s no WiFi and some things could be improved.

The owners are exceptional, the natural setting is stunning, and it’s incredibly peaceful. What more could you want?
