Albergo Sant'Emidio

The central location was great for exploring Ascoli Piceno on foot, but our group’s stay left us disappointed. My room was fine, though it could use some freshening up. The bathroom was a much bigger problem: black mold on both shower heads, the shower mat, and the soap dispenser, plus rust on the bin and soap holder. The shower shelf was so high that someone around five feet tall couldn’t reach their soap, and black tape held the shower head in place on the bar. Breakfast was a strange setup. We had to mark our choices on a sheet the day before and give a time, and the food quality was poor, almost like airplane food. We were allowed just one cappuccino each, and it wasn’t very good. We were greeted by a scruffy-looking person who argued when we had questions. When I asked about the courtesy light that wouldn’t turn off, the night staff eventually figured out that the card controlling the electricity hadn’t been updated.

The bedroom was spacious, clean, and quiet, and the staff made us feel welcome. It’s also an easy walk to the Torricella Saba car park. Piazza Arringo and the cathedral are just a few steps away. The breakfast was disappointing, with poor-quality food. We had to select everything the night before from a tick-box menu instead of choosing from a buffet. The bathroom sliding door had a broken lock that couldn’t be fixed.

The worst part was breakfast. The food wasn’t good, and I waited over half an hour for a coffee. I reminded the waitress several times, but she kept serving other orders and ignoring me. In the end I had to leave without it, and taking it to go wasn’t possible. I stayed for a few days. The room was small, with a tiny window and no view, and it didn’t have basic items like shampoo or toothpaste. They gave us shampoo and body wash just once, which wasn’t enough for the whole stay. I wouldn’t count on a good breakfast here. I’d eat somewhere else, or find another place to stay.

Ascoli Piceno is a beautiful city, and this place is tucked into a quiet alley just off Piazza Arringo. The location is wonderful.
