I recommended this place to one of my clients. He had a great stay and said he’d gladly come back and recommend it to his friends.

Whenever we return to beautiful Ascoli, we choose b&b L'Arengo. It’s right behind the cathedral, so the location is very central, and parking is convenient and close by. The staff’s kindness makes us feel at home, and the rooms are lovely and very comfortable. They’re even more welcoming now that the new windows do more to keep out possible noise. Breakfast is included, and 100 meters away, the historic Angelini pastry shop has really delicious handmade pastries.

What stood out was how friendly and courteous the staff were, and the rooms themselves were clean, nicely furnished, and had a comfortable bed. We stayed twice, though, and a few things would make me check ahead next time. The B&B is in a first-floor apartment right at the junction of Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Via Alighieri Battistero, so there’s traffic and people talking outside until around 1:30-2:00 AM. The old windows don’t block much noise. Saturday night was quieter by morning, probably because there were fewer cars on Sunday. The staff thoughtfully provide earplugs, but as light sleepers we only got a few hours and slept in because we were tired and on business. It’s about a five-minute walk to Piazza del Popolo and other sights. One of the double rooms has a built-in flush toilet instead of a bidet, so ask which room you’ll get if that matters to you. Breakfast was in the dining room on our first visit. The second time, we were sent to a pastry shop 150 meters away, away from the center. The pastries seemed to be from the day before and weren’t very good. The woman there changed her expression when we said we were staying at a B&B, and we got the sense the cappuccino and pastries wouldn’t be great. I’d ask in advance whether you can skip that breakfast, get a discount, and eat at one of the many nearby bars instead. We’d paid ahead, so couldn’t do that. There’s no POS terminal, either, so payment is cash only. The stay was positive apart from these issues, but at €90 a night I expected more. If we come back, we’ll ask about all this in advance.

The owners are courteous and professional, and breakfast at Angelini pastry shop is included, less than 100 meters away. We’ve chosen the Arengo for our Ascoli area vacation three times now, thanks to its good value, convenient location overlooking the back of the Duomo, and rooms that are comfortable, spotless, and quiet. The windows have been redone and provide excellent soundproofing.
