Ascesi Resort

We'd been to Umbria and Tuscany several times, but this was our first visit to Assisi, and it won't be our last. Ascesi Resort made the trip comfortable and helped us get the most out of our days there. We stayed for several days recently and loved the place, its setting and views, and above all the people. It's the nicest hotel we've had the pleasure of staying in in Italy.

I've returned to Assisi for the fourth time, and stayed at "Ascesi" again. Assisi has a magical peacefulness about it, and Ascesi feels like a real place to unwind from everyday stress and come away with some positive energy. The resort is surrounded by greenery, with a breathtaking view of the Basilica of Saint Francis that takes your breath away as soon as you arrive. The rooms are really more like mini-apartments, each with a private wellness area, Turkish bath, sauna, and sensory shower. They're full of thoughtful touches, from wireless chargers built into the bedside tables to soft, enveloping bathrobes, and have every comfort. Breakfast is amazing, with refined, top-quality sweet and savory dishes served at the table. They take food intolerances very seriously, and the portions are so generous you could skip lunch. The staff are highly qualified. Dr. Bianconi is an excellent host and endlessly knowledgeable and kind, while Monica runs things with great professionalism and wins you over with her cheerfulness. I recommend treating yourself to a stay at Ascesi. It's a treat for mind, body, and soul. I'll be back.

We loved the location for visiting Assisi, and the quality and beauty of the property stood out throughout our stay. Our room felt like a little luxury retreat, with elegant furnishings and so much attention to detail. The private sauna and sensory shower made it especially relaxing. Breakfast was a real highlight too. There was a wide choice of sweet and savory dishes, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Each one felt carefully put together, and the chef's ideas were creative and delicious. Thanks to the chef for dishes that were never ordinary. The team deserves plenty of credit. Monica leads everyone with real professionalism and pays close attention to guests' needs. The owner was present and attentive, and shared stories about the property's history and how it has changed over time. His knowledge, warmth, and passion made the place feel personal. We highly recommend Ascesi Resort for its comfort, luxury, thoughtful details, and impeccable service.

The view of Assisi was fantastic, the staff were very friendly, and everything was clean. Those were the clear positives. But at about €420 a night, it doesn't feel like a proper five-star hotel. There was no restaurant, pool, or real bar, and we couldn't even get a glass of wine. The decor comes down to personal taste. The suite sauna and steam room were nice, but made the bathroom feel cluttered. Practical touches were missing too: no towel or robe rack, no shower shelf, and no luggage stand. The place also seemed unfinished, with construction gear and debris around and plenty of work still happening outside during the day. At night it was hard to sleep: the air conditioning was loud, and leaving the window open meant traffic noise. Breakfast is à la carte, which sounds nice, but takes too long. The pastries were very good, and the birthday cake was truly delicious, thank you for that, but the rest was pretty average. For a five-star hotel, I expected more. The value for the price just isn't there. A shame.
