BV Grand Hotel Assisi

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Assisi twice, and the second visit was even worse. The room was disgusting: the wooden floor should have been replaced ten years ago, the bathroom was dirty, and there were visible stains inside the toilet that clearly hadn’t been cleaned. Neither the AC nor the heating worked, not even the fan. When I reported it, they just told me to open the window, but mosquitoes made that impossible. The bathroom extractor didn’t work either, and the water was barely warm even after running it for a long time. The restaurant was another major disappointment. Everything arrived barely warm and tasted like poor quality ingredients. The dessert seemed to be made from industrial powder mixes and had a chemical aftertaste. The receptionists were rude and unprofessional and showed no interest in helping guests. On our first stay, the reception area gave the impression of a nice hotel, but that was where it ended. Our underground room had a window facing a closed corridor, with no sunlight or fresh air, just a depressing view of a wall. The AC was a noisy fan that didn’t cool the room or help with humidity, and there was a strong stale smoke smell. The carpet was very old and worn, and the walls were so thin we could hear the neighbors showering as if they were in our room. Cleanliness was unacceptable too, with other people’s hair on the toilet seat, sink, and in the shower. Reception staff were unhelpful and indifferent, giving incorrect answers to simple questions or not bothering to reply. The restaurant food was bland and under-salted throughout, bread included, with no real flavor or freshness. The hotel isn’t in the city center, and it takes about 20 minutes to walk to Santa Chiara. Several people in our group had to switch rooms due to bad smells, blocked showers, and conditions dirtier than ours. They seem to have invested in making the reception look good, but the rest of the place felt old, neglected, and badly maintained. This hotel was a complete disaster for us, and I’d never return or recommend it.
