Camere Gambacorta

Getting checked in was easy, and Mr. Geo Gambacorta and his son Marco were very kind and helpful. The terrace has amazing views over Assisi, and the kitchen is great for cooking, with all the dishes and cutlery you need. My room also had a TV, nice blinds, and a fully equipped bathroom with reliable hot water. It’s close to Santa Chiara basilica, and you can take a bus easily to get around Umbria or reach the train station. My room, no 2, could have been cleaner, and there were small cockroaches that the owner should get rid of. The restaurant just below the windows gets pretty noisy at night, so bring earplugs. It was quieter in the rain, when the tables were outside. I had just one and a half rolls of toilet paper for five days, and the bed was hard. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back, but the roaches and the restaurant noise bothered me most.

Sr. Gambacorta’s warm hospitality is what stands out most. He welcomed us like family, and there’s a lovely little grocery shop he runs down the street where you can pick up everything for the self-catering kitchen. We also loved the rooftop terrace, with beautiful views over town and the valley. It’s a nice spot for breakfast or looking at the stars. The room was clean, though plain and simple. If you value humble simplicity and kindness while visiting Assisi in the footsteps of St. Francis, this is a great place to stay. If a beautiful room with a view matters more to you, it probably won’t suit.

Simple, no frills, with a meditation kind of vibe. I loved it, and the owner’s a gentleman. It has all you need. Check-in happens at a store owned by the owner, and Google Maps made it easy to find.

I made a reservation, but nobody ever answered my messages. There was no information and no WhatsApp number. Sad.
