Monte Cavallo

I wouldn’t recommend Monte Cavallo after the rude service, refusal to take a credit card, and unexpected increase in the price. This may have been the worst check-in I’ve experienced as a frequent traveller. We arrived ready to pay the 320 euros shown on booking.com, including taxes and fees, but staff said they only accepted cash and wanted 352 euros. I tried to explain that, as I understood it, Italian law requires businesses providing services to accept credit cards. We didn’t have enough cash, and because our Italian was limited, we weren’t comfortable paying more when the explanation wasn’t clear. The owner then shouted angrily at us in Italian. Her son took us to an ATM, where we had to pay a needless 48 euro withdrawal fee. Altogether we spent 80 euros more than the confirmed booking.com price. I understand they may have been frustrated, thinking we didn’t want to pay, but the owner spoke to us very rudely. I regret not leaving and finding somewhere else in Assissi.
