The pool, restaurant, and views were lovely, but after 28 days of traveling around Italy, this was our first truly disappointing stay. We booked for six nights, mainly because we like to cook with local produce, and the advertised kitchen facilities fell well short. The kitchen was poorly equipped, with worn items like chipped crockery, a blunt peeler, a smelly sponge, and hardly any dishwashing liquid. Even though the property is reached by a remote 7km dirt track, there were no basics like salt, pepper, oil, tea, or coffee. We got salt and pepper after asking, but felt like we were imposing. We also had to ask for a bin liner, pool towels, and BBQ tools, despite the advertised BBQ. Our rooms weren’t very clean, and the pillows badly need replacing. The Wifi was extremely poor, and the TV was smaller than a PC screen and unusable. We also weren’t told by the booking platform that the property hosts large events and parties. Early the morning after we arrived, around 15 staff started setting up two events for a total of 100 people. They removed chairs from our balcony while we were eating breakfast. Later, as we tried to relax by the pool, a staff member suddenly tried to take the sun umbrella we were sitting under and argued when I asked him not to. During the preparations and events, we felt ignored and unwelcome while trying to enjoy the pool. The owner lives offsite and runs the villa as a business. When my partner and I went to use the pool, we couldn’t find space because the owners’ son and twelve 16-year-old friends were using it. None were paying guests or lived onsite. The owner argued with me and defended the kids’ use of the pool. Given the kitchen, cleanliness, unexpected events, and how often we felt like an imposition, this didn’t rank among our best stays. It’s a remote place worth visiting for its beauty, but the owners should invest in basic kitchen supplies if they advertise cooking facilities.
