The place itself made the trip, and our room was still nice and clean. It’s beautiful and right in the heart of Assisi. We’d planned the trip for my 30th birthday, and we’d just got engaged. My fiancé emailed several times asking if they could leave something in the room, like a card, a congratulations in Italian, or towel art, but there was nothing. We’d also been told we could use a balcony to have a drink and see the city, but access was only for a specific room. There weren’t curtains, but we had sleep masks, so that was fine.

The owner made us feel welcome and told us about the building, along with sharing great local recommendations. Our apartment was stunning, comfortable, and very clean, with historic furniture, old frescoes on the walls and ceiling, and lots of charming details. There was also a private courtyard outside our room, with seating and wonderful views. It’s right in Assisi’s old town, so everything was an easy walk, and nearby car parking was a bonus. A real gem, and I’d encourage anyone coming to Assisi to stay here.

The property is gorgeous. We stayed for two nights, and the location works perfectly if you leave your car in the main car park. There’s a short run of escalators and lifts up to the property.

We only stayed one night, and it was nowhere near long enough. The huge, unusual room and private green space gave our visit a real old-world feel and made Assisi seem wonderfully authentic. The balcony, the view, and the stairs down to the private yard were unexpected treats. Restaurants, shops, and the basilicas were all convenient to get to on foot through Assisi’s beautiful streets. We’ll come back to Assisi someday and stay at San Crispino for longer.
