La Locanda

Gino and his wife looked after us so well during our couple of nights at La Locanda. Breakfast was great each morning, and Gino’s espressos were a treat. The whole staff went out of their way to make the stay special. I’d DEFINITELY book this hotel again if I return to the Aviano area.

The people here really made our stay. Everyone made us feel welcome, from breakfast time until we headed to bed, and we loved the staff. I hope the owners can keep them around for years. The rooms were tidy and clean, and the hotel felt above average. It’s recently renovated, so everything is new. Thanks for a great stay!

People rave about the ribs, but they were too dry for me. Unless you ask for them dressed with BBQ sauce, they come coated in oil and salt. They’re okay in their own way, though I’ve had better ribs at home. The place itself is good.

We had two starters, carbonara and gnocchi with duck sauce, then shared the grill platter. It came with chicken, steak, lamb, pork, polenta, and amazing chips, British terminology. Every part was cooked perfectly, even though they didn’t ask how we wanted it done. The chicken fell apart with its garlic-lime sauce, the steak was seasoned just right for my American taste, and the pork was really tasty. We absolutely demolished the steak. The platter is €35 and could feed 3-4 people, so it’s good value split between a few. There were two of us and we couldn’t finish it all. Sorry, the photo makes it look smaller than it was. It’s cooked on a proper grill, so you get that smoky char. Great atmosphere and impeccable service, and all the food was very good.
