I expected better and wouldn’t recommend it. The beds are old and uncomfortable, especially the wooden bunk bed, which creaks and sits right by the kitchen. The lower bunk is very close to the floor. The sheets and tablecloths are really worn, and the cleaning felt superficial. There were no toiletries. The pool and the loungers beside it weren’t well maintained. They should pay more attention to cleaning and updating the furnishings.

We were pleasantly surprised by Avola, from its historic center to the seaside village that keeps growing. It’s a very convenient base for seeing the important places in southeastern Sicily. Casa Zagara is set in a naturally beautiful spot, and the house is lovely, fully equipped, comfortable, clean, and very well cared for. Angela and Sebastiano were wonderfully kind and available whenever we needed them. We had an unforgettable stay and will definitely return to Casa Zagara.
