The food is fantastic, and the service is excellent. I'm coeliac and need gluten-free options, and that was no problem at all. They even have gluten-free beer. The boiler was broken, so the water was cold when I washed up after hiking, but that's mountain life. The friendly service makes up for it.
Conditions on Monte Rosetta were actually perfect, with just a few firm snowfields and none of them steep. That's why the guardian's warning frustrated me: when we asked about the mountain, he told us not to go because there was lots of snow and we'd sink a metre into it. None of that was true. He hadn't been there this year and didn't know what he was talking about. A guardian should know the mountains, or simply say when he doesn't know.
A great spot for a midday lunch and quick rest after crossing the pass. The minestrone was reviving, the pasta tasty, and the espresso was excellent. Like mountain food in general, it was a little too greasy for my taste. There are comfortable places nearby to lie in the sun.
We slept in a six-person room and shared the bathroom with the other rooms. Dinner was very good, two dishes and a dessert, and we paid about 50 euros.
