A former sacristy turned into a love nest, and somehow it couldn't feel more romantic. Everything seems lovingly handmade, in beautiful surroundings. It's the sort of place to dream, fall in love, write your future bestseller, post something deep on Instagram, or pray for more holidays like this.

We had the whole place to ourselves, and the location was beautiful. The owners gave us vouchers for breakfast at a café in Bagnoregio, which worked out fine. There was also a coffee machine in the room. Unusual and different, but a very memorable stay.

It was 32 degrees and very hot, but the swimming pool was shut. The accommodation was cluttered, and breakfast meant a coffee and croissant a few miles away. Booking.com hadn't disclosed that.
