This was one of the most draining and uncomfortable hotel stays I've had. I came to Hotel Saint Raphael Terme with my daughter expecting international 4-star standards, but we didn't get basic comfort, care, cleanliness, or hospitality. The room was bare and poorly equipped: no kettle, poor quality mattresses with no mattress protector, a basic fridge, one small open bin, and plastic cups in the bathroom. Each day we found black insect or termite fragments on the floor, and I woke up with bites. There was no air conditioning in the daytime, just ventilation. When we raised how uncomfortable it was, staff were dismissive and even told me to make other arrangements during a busy period. Meals were probably the only part with some heart, though they were hit and miss. We had fixed seating every day, and water wasn't included in the half-board package. At checkout, nobody offered to help with luggage or even said goodbye. The key was silently taken from me. What should have been a peaceful, restorative break on a beautiful, picturesque island turned into a disappointing ordeal. I wouldn't come back even if it were free. I'm not sure how the hotel met the local 4-star classification, but it falls far short on comfort, care, and international quality. I tried to upload photos of the insects or termites, the substandard bed and mattress, and the basic bathroom amenities, but they failed to upload.

Rude, incompetent staff.

Drinks are expensive, but there are lots of people.

The live music evenings were lovely, especially Marilena, who was amazing. Antonello, the night watchman, was excellent, very kind, and always available. The thermal pool is beautiful, but too hot to really enjoy, though that's understandable in August. We had a five-night stay through an agency package. The property, rooms, and restaurant aren't new, but we consistently found things clean, and the food was quite good. The location in Barano d'Ischia is above the Maronti and a bit isolated from everything, though the view is spectacular. We did notice disorganization and poor communication among the staff, with reception and the kitchen not in sync and guests often left unclear about meal times. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner schedules weren't very clear, and we often had to wait.

The view is enchanting, honestly worth the stay on its own. Valerio is a highly professional massage therapist and a real asset to the hotel. Gianluca in the mud therapy department also deserves praise, along with Mario, who was always available and versatile. But after those bright spots, it's downhill. The facility needs a proper renovation and better management. As things are now, there's too little to make me consider returning.
