Hotel Villa al Mare

It felt like visiting your aunt, with smiles and a really kind atmosphere all around. The rooms could use air conditioning and the bathrooms could be better, but the cozy feel makes those things easier to forgive. Breakfast could have more variety, so I’m taking off a star. Still, I’d recommend it.

The pool’s warm thermal water was such a peaceful place to unwind, and the sea views were stunning, whether we were having coffee or wine. The homemade dishes, made from their grandmother’s recipes, were authentic and delicious. This hotel has a real soul, thanks to the two sisters who run it and make you feel at home straight away. It’s a personal, traditional kind of hospitality, far from the feel of a huge resort. Everything was spotless and carefully maintained. Saying goodbye was hard, and we already know we’ll return.

We had a wonderful week here, my husband, our 15-year-old daughter, and me, staying half-board. The two sisters running the hotel were so kind and did their best to meet our needs. The rooms and the rest of the property are a little dated, but clean and air-conditioned. Meals were excellent, with generous portions and everything cooked just right. Since my daughter can’t have gluten or lactose, they always prepared a delicious alternative for her. Even the fruit and vegetables tasted better than anything I’m used to in the city. The hotel sits in Barano on the road to Maronti beach, about five minutes by bus, with the stop right outside. The view is spectacular, and our room had a large terrace facing Sant'Angelo. I’ve added a few photos of the hotel and food, especially the wonderful Ischian croissants. We were sorry to leave, and I hope we can come back soon.
